Decoding the 'Y' Mark on Early 20th Century Solid Gold Wedding Rings

Question
What is the meaning of a Y stamped before the trademark inside each of two wedding rings circa 1914?

Answer
Hello James - I have not been able to locate anything on the Y as far as a metal designation. Most of the time when an item was marked "Solid Gold" the item was actually anywhere from 9 - 14K and not "solid" gold. When a piece has this mark, I usually have it tested for the true karat.  There was a company that used 14Y as their trademark in the 1930's - Clark & Noon, Inc. in Newark NJ. Is there any other trademark information ? or just the Y ? The Y could also be a design mark or even an owner initial. Sorry I couldn't be of more help on this.
