Drilling Amethyst Stalactite Slices: Tips & Tools
QuestionHello Steven, What is the best way/tool (without spending lots of money) to drill a hole in front to back into an amethyst stalactite slice? I ordered a bunch of them from a mine in Uruguay and need to drill holes in them so they can be used as pendants. The slices are approx. 1.5 to 2.5 inches and approx. 3.5 to 4mm thick. I have an old Dremel tool from when they first came out, is that something I could still use? Please advise and thank you.
AnswerHi Laura,
Yes you can use the dremel. You will need to buy some diamond bits.
I would use the triple ripple type, 1.8mm is a good size to hold up. Take your time keep the bit cool with water. Drilling from both sides may be easier than from just one side to the other.
