Understanding 'Gothic' in 14K Gold Jewelry: Maker vs. Style

I found a diamond initial ring, it appears old and it is very heavy (16.2 grams).  The stamping on the inside reads Gothic 14K.  What does "gothic" mean?

Vicki, I believe Gothic is the maker's name.  It there is another stamp near the 14k which could be the maker's name, then the Gothic may be a description of a particular line of jewelry.  

The word has nothing to do with the quality of the metal.  Thanks for asking.
