Understanding "14K FP" Gold Jewelry: What Does It Mean?

Question
Irecently bougt a ring that was advertised as being solid 14K gold, but when I look at the metal quality mark inside it says "14K FP". What does it mean? Is it solid gold or some king of gold plated or gold filled jewelry?
Thank you for your help

Answer
Juliette, the marking FP is not a metal quality mark.  Now, GP may be used for Gold Plated but is seen only rarely.  Look closely at the mark and insure it is an "F" in the letters.  If so, I believe it would be the maker's mark.

If you purchased the ring recently, it might be wise to have a jeweler check it to assure the metal is 14 karat.  If not, perhaps you can get your money refunded.

Still, if the letters are clearly FP and not GP I suspect the item is as stated, being 14k.

Best wishes. God bless.    Thomas.
