QuestionHi there, I just purchased a new two tone gold and silver
ankle bracelet for my gf. While examining it I noticed
markings. 925 2/25 14K. I know that the "925" is silver and
the "14K" is gold but what does the "2/25" stand for? Thx for
any feedback!
AnswerDurius,
Typically anytime you see a fraction in the stamp, it is referring to a ratio of plating to total weight. In other words, I would guess, by the marks you are describing, that the piece is Sterling Silver (925) and parts of the anklet are gold plated in 14KY over the sterling. The plating is 2/25 (two twentyfifths) of the total weight of the piece. So, it is Sterling throughout with a gold plating over parts of it to give it the two tone appearance.
If it the 14K gold sections were solid 14K, it would not have the fraction between them.
Hope that helps and that she loves her gift.
