Why is My 14K ZEI Ring Turning My Finger Green?

Question
I recently got engaged and my ring has 14k ZEI engraved on the inside. It is turning my finger green and I am wondering why. I know ZEI is the trademark and i think it is real gold but I don't know why it is making my finger green.

Answer
Brandi, thanks for this question. Honestly, without having the ring in my hand there is no way for me to tell for certain if it is solid gold or gold filled or plated.  The best thing for you to do is contact the seller and ask what is happening with the green color and all.

I have not ever seen green from solid gold items. Almost always this is from items which are not solid gold and the surface of gold has worn away, exposing the metal underneath which is a brass sort of metal. Those metals will cause a green smudge and gold does not do that under most all normal circumstances.

There is a chance if you live near the ocean that salts, etc., are building up under the ring and may cause some skin reaction or discoloration. Still, green is not to be expected.

Please contact the seller and find out for certain what you have. Otherwise, this is simply a strange combination of skin reactions and environmental exposure to chemicals of some sort.

You are correct in that the other marks are most likely a trademark.

I do hope this helps.  God Bless and Peace.     Thomas.  : )
