Understanding 14K Gold Stamps & Manufacturing IDs - Jewelry Q&A

Question
I have a necklass that on one side of clasp it say 14k, on the otherside it says: 2HD557 any ideal what this means? It has what looks like a diamond in it?
Thanks
DJ

Answer
HI DJ,

OBVIOUSLY THE '14K' IS THE 14 KARAT GOLD QUALITY STAMP AND THE '2HD557' IS BASICALLY THE MFG. I.D. '2HD' AND THE 557 IS THE PERCENTAGE OF GOLD IN 14K GOLD, 55.7% TO IDENTIFY IT TO EVERYONE THAT IS HANDLING IT. THE DIAMOND IS A LOGO FOR THE COMPANY.

THANKS
PETER
