The National Gold and Silver Stamping Act established the guidelines for manufacturing and marketing of gold and silver products. The Act insures that the consumer of gold and silver products receives exactly what the manufacturer of gold and silver products has represented them to be. This is usually done by the manufacturer stamping the particular fineness on a piece of gold or silver jewelry.

The Act has been amended several times since it was first passed in 1906. The arrow is likely a manufacturers hallmark.
