How to Keep Your Aquamarine Stone Sparkling: Cleaning Tips & Care Guide

Hello.  I purchased my wife a nice aquamarine stone set in white gold.  I realize that the stone itself is fairly common and therefore isn't as valuable as some other gems, but my question concerns appearance more than value.  After soaking in a water and soap solution for several hours and wiping with a soft cloth the stone is absolutely brilliant.  It looks great!!  But it very quickly grows dull.  I have read that one should expect to clean aquamarine about once a month, but my wife must clean hers at least once a or twice a week!!  Is this normal?  Does it depend upon the quality of the stone?  Or perhaps we are cleaning it wrong?  Thank you very much for your time.

PS My daughter has a similar ring from a different jeweler that exhibits the exact same tendencies.

Some people need to clean their jewelry every day. Jewelry and gemstone attract and trap a lot of dirt. Its normal.
