Recutting a Star Ruby: Can It Be Improved?
QuestionI have a 5.64 ct star ruby, 9mm round, that I had removed from a man's ring. The jeweler said that it could have been more beautiful if it had been cut properly. My question is this? Can a stone this size be re-cut to a smaller stone with a more pronounced star? Or is it too late?
AnswerHi,
I may have answered this already. Anyway if the star has to be recentered then it may be too late, it depends on the thickness of the stone and what is meant by poorly cut or polished. I would need to see the stone to better tell you.
