How to Clean a Peridot Ring with White Gold and Diamonds

Question
HI. I have a natural stone Peridot ring with diamonds around it and white gold band. I have had it for 3 years and the Period is pretty dirty. The diamonds are fine and the band is starting to change color. I just want to know how to clean it. I know I can't use regular cleaner.

Answer
First I would address the dirty peridot.  This can be accomplished with lukewarm (never hot!!) water and a mild dishwashing liquid.  Use a soft-bristled toothbrush to get into the nooks and crannies around the stone, but it is best to use a brand new toothbrush because a used one will have bits of abrasive from toothpaste and that will damage your stone.

The band is much harder to deal with at home and would best be cleaned by your jeweler.  If you are careful, you can use a cotton cloth and some brasso to bring back the gold's shine, but make sure you do not get near that peridot with this stuff!  You can also dip a q-tip cotton swab into the brasso for a more precise touch.

Thanks for your question, and good luck!
