Decoding Maker's Marks: Identifying Age and Metal Content

Question

Higa pendant
Hi - I have recently bought a pendant that I think is a Higa. It is marked on the top by the ring 750, RJ, and what looks like 412. The metal is very yellow and I believe the 750 denotes 18ct gold, but I would love to know what the other marks mean and how old it is. The arm is 4cm long and although finely crafted has feint carving marks so I think it may be rock crystal. Many thanks.

Answer
Hello Sue and thank you for your inquiry. I apologize for the delay but my computer has been down. The 750 does stand for 18karat gold in Italy standards. The RJ and 412 are probably manufacturer or designer numbers. I do not have information on European designers but there is a book available probably at your library by Ginger Moro that lists many of the popular designers. Hope this helps and enjoy your pendant !
