Identifying Irish Gold Hallmarks: Shamrock & Star

Question
hello could you help me to I dentify an Irish gold mark? it is on a reliquary cruciform cross pendant, the mark is difficult to see, but it's a small shamrock, with a small star beside it and the letter I,there are about six figures or numbers above this i can't read?thanks very much.

Answer
Hello there,

I have no knowledge of the Shamrock as a Hallmark. The main Assay Office in Ireland is Dublin and the mark for this is the Harp.
It is possible that this is simply a mark which has been adopted  by the maker and has never been registered.
The letter is likely reference to year of making with the shield and letter changing shape every 25 years........a small survey of year letters for Ireland can be found here.

Sorry that I cant be more helpful, however there law governing the marks on jewellery have reduced over time.

You say that the cross is a reliquary - I'd be interested to know what relic the cross contains?

Good Luck, P
