Unwanted Attention: Husband Receives Unexpected Letter From Former Classmate's Mother

Question
Bill,
My husband and I recently attended a wedding for a friend of his.  My husband ran into the parents of an old classmate.  Exactly one week after the wedding, my husband received a letter from this woman, saying it was so great to see him, he looked GREAT, etc...  He kept it, saying he was going to contact her.  I got pretty defensive right away, saying that it was pretty weird that she sent him a letter...especially since he admitted she probably wouldn't have sent a letter to any of my their other classmates that were there.  Also...she would have had to do some detective work to get our address, which also was odd to me.  Is it normal for a 50 year old woman to send a letter to a 25 year old former classmate of her son??? My immediate response was NO...but what do you think? I just have a gut feeling that something about it isn't right.  Thanks for your input!

Answer
Well it probably isn't normal, but hardly anything is these days. In a marriage you have to have a degree of trust for one another, or the marriage isn't really worth much. You've heard the saying 'trust but verify,'that may be a suggestion here. Monitor his actions and question where necessary without showing any degree of jealousy. Perhaps she wants to relive some old times, perhaps she wants to use your husband to correct of find out about some behavior of her son. There could be a very innocent reason. So just keep an eye on it.
