Postpartum Bleeding After Cesarean: A 6-Week Follow-Up

I am 21 i have a 6 week old daughter. Don't know when i had my last period-but that is what my questions pertains.  I had my daughter on the 11 Aug. 2004 and checked out of the hospital the 14th. I did not get an episotomy-but i did have a frontal labia stich-as the Dr. called it. I bleed after the pregnancy for about a week or so and then i started back on my BC-orthoevera. I did have sex about 2 weeks after she was born-and about 3 days later i started bleeding again. Very heavy. When i would use the bathroom-the blood would come out in small clumps. That lasted about 2 weeks. i was sick on the last day of the two weeks and that was when the bleeding was very heavy i went through like a pad every 2 1/2 hours. Then the next day it stopped. That lasted about 3-4 days. And my boyfriend and i had sex again. Now i am in the stage of not wearing the patch for a week-b/c i went through the three-and i am bleeding again. In the same way like before. What should i do? Do i need to call my doctor and get checked? Your help would be greatly appriciated. One other thing it doesn't really have a foul spell-but the color is a very bright red.

Whether you had an episiotomy or not, we usually restrict you from having ahy intercourse until after your six week checkup (postpartum). By then, your body has returned to normal and all the bleeding will have stopped. Then you can start the patch and change it every week. When you stop the patch (after the third week) you will get your period.  I doubt that the bleeding that you have had is dangerous. Just wait for a normal period and then start the patch again.
