Understanding Early Pregnancy Bleeding After a Miscarriage
QuestionI am 26 years old and just had a miscarriage at about 7 weeks 3 months ago. My first pregnancy! I just started trying again this month. I had a feeling I was pregnant but started having some light spotting and dark brown discharge the day before my period was supposed to start. This is exactly what happened with my miscarriage. I just had a positive pregnancy test today and called my OB. I am going to get labs tomorrow, but I am totally freaked out. This is like deja vu. Does this mean I will probably miscarry again? I just can't even enjoy the excitement of being pregnant due to my worry.
AnswerDear Julie
15-20% of all normal women abort in their first pregnancies although completely healthy. However because you had 2 successive abortions according to your description, I advise a transvaginal ultrasound scan to confirm that there is normal genital tract. Sometimes an incomptent cervix leads to recurrent abortions and this may need some special care.
Good Luck
