Early Pregnancy Induction Concerns: Glycosuria & High Fluid Levels - Medical Consultation

Question
i am 19 years old, this is my first pregnancy and the first day of my last mp was 23/08/05.

i have had several episodes of glycosuria, had gtt but vomited and no accurate result, been monitoring bg levels for few weeks with a few high results.  was measuring "big for dates" therfore had u/s at 31+ and baby was average size but excess amniotic fluid.  i am seeing the consultant again 16/05/06 to have another u/s to check growth and liquor. i'm worried i will be induced at 38 wks due to bg levels and +fluid. what do u think

Answer
You should have had a GTT at 28 weeks gestation. If the baby continues to drow and you keep spilling glucose in your urine, the baby may be deemed "macrosomic'. If the Estimated Fetal Weight (EFW) on sonogram is greater than 9.5lbs, a cesarean section will be recommended at 38 weeks to avoid the possibility of neurologic damage due to shoulder dystocia. If the EFW is less, you may be offered induction to avoid shoulder duystocia. Very often, we see increased amniotic fluid if you have some gestational diabetes. Don't worry. If your doctos believe that the baby would do better out of the uterus than in the uterus, delivery would be appropriate.
