Postpartum Period: When Will Your Period Return After Childbirth?

Question
I was wondering when I should expect my first period after giving child birth.

Answer
Hello Mindy- hopefully you are breastfeeding- if so, your period may not show up for several months. As long as your baby is sucking at the nipple, your periods(ovulation) will be delayed. HOWEVER- you cannot use this as birth control because the amount of sucking required to keep your ovaries dormant is different for every woman. You must use a condom. DON'T take ANY form of the pill- no matter WHAT your dr. says. All the best- Cheri.
