Postpartum Period & Potential Pregnancy: What to Know

Question
I delivered my son in July of this year. My period came about 6 weeks later... My cycle is regular... it is every 28 days and only lasts for about 3 days. I was due to start October 27... I ended up getting it on October 31- but its not how it normally is... it was very light. One thing that caught my attention was that I ALWAYS have severe back pain a few days before I start and cramps that are KILLER! I have not had any pain what so ever! I was just wondering if I could possibly be pregnant or if my body is still out of wack from my first pregnancy... any advise is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Answer
Hi Kristy :)

By now, your cycle and hormones should be completely back to normal again.

Are your breast feeding? I would assume not, considering you have had your period. If you are breast feeding this could most definately be the reason.

You could be pregnant. Cant rule it out. The bleeding you talked about could be implantation bleeding.

It would be to early right now to do a pregnancy test I think, that would carry an accurate result. I would wait atleast another week, to see what happens before testing, or seeing a doctor about it.

Are you under stress? or Emotional upset? Also, keep in mind that any physical, or emotional stress will most certainly cause late irregular periods as well.

Well, its certainly alarming, because as you said you are regular. Its very possible you could be pregnant. But at this point as I said, I dont think you would get a accurate result because it is so early. I would wait a little longer and do it and see how it goes. If it comes back negative, then its probably a case of an irregular period, just due to stress, or slight imbalance.

Hope this answers your question, and thanks for writing!
