Postpartum Recovery: Understanding Your Period and Symptoms After Childbirth
QuestionHi
I had my daughter nearly 13 weeks ago, a normal vaginal delivery (had alot of stitches afterwards though) and am bottle feeding. I haven't had my period yet, no sign of it! I had a really bad shooting pain the other day in my lower abdomen and then felt a bit sick but thats been about it. I have asked my doctor and health visitor and they aren't concerend but i feel bloated and just not myself. I'm not particularly stressed (although this my first baby!!)but just want to know if this is 'normal'?!
Thanks
AnswerDear Sarah
Congratulations for the baby. The answer is no..it is not normal to have such a vague complaint. However, if your vital signs are normal; blood pressure, pulse and temperature and if you do not have any specific complaint for example urinary symptoms, there is nothing o worry about unless it recurs.
If you have frequency of urine, burning pain, i would recommend a urinalysis as this is the commonest infection which may occur after delivery and it causes a severe pain.
Good Luck
