Post-Emergency Contraception Period & Side Effects: What to Expect

Question
I've had irregular periods for a year because I've been on Depo-Provera. I stopped using it and switched to condomns. However, due to an incident, I had to use emergency contraception. When should I get a period after taking emergency contraception? Is it normal to feel breast tenderness and sore nipples a week after taking EC?

Thanks!

Answer
When was the first day of your last period? Have you been getting any periods after stopping the DepoProvera?  After using emergency contraception you should get your period when expected (at the regular time). Remember, you can only conceive if you have sex at the time of ovulation. ovulation usually occurs two weeks after the first day of your period. If you had sex around then and took EC, then you should expect your next period two weeks later. if you do not get your period at that time, take a pregnancy test.  The breast tenderness may be due to an impending period.
