Managing a Cold During Labor: Tips for a Natural Birth

Question
I am 30, pregnant with second child, being induced Monday 10/3 (due date) due to GDM.  I have a terrible head cold with congestion in my nose and ears, plus a runny nose and sneezing.  What can I do to get myself healthy enough to push this baby out through breathing techniques alone.  I want a natural childbirth.  Please help before Sunday night!

Answer
I would suggest that, if you have a runny nose and are sneezing, you should try Sudafed and Robitussin. A cold will not stop you from pushing out the baby, and you still can use breathing techniques (through your mouth rather than your nose). Also try drinking plenty of fluids to keep yourself hydrated. Good luck.
