Provera and Breast Tenderness: Possible Connection?

Question
Hi I am 21 years old w/ no children.  I had a miscarriage in March '04.  This past august I had to take Provera to jumpstart my period due to it being MIA for 90 days.  I got my period just like the dr said on the day he said and everything no symptoms or side affects.  The following cycle I had a bit of breast and nipple tenderness and my period was a little lighter than usual but still had the normal things I'm used to. However the time between my start and end of cycle was 52 days better than 90 by far but still longer than usual. My period started for this cycle on September 29 I've always had irregular schedules but was on average about 35-38 day cycles.  This cycle I've noticed EXTREMELY sore nipples so bad that when they rub on my bra or bedsheets that I feel like screaming.  Could the provera be causing this?

Answer
Are you still taking the Provera? Usually, to jump start a period, we give Provera 10mg twice a day for five days and you should get your period in 10 days. Then you do not have to take the Provera unless you miss another period. If you have such long cycles, you probably should be put on birth control pills to regulate your cycle to one of 28 days in length. A cycle is considered normal if it is 21-35 days in length. One of 52 days or longer is abnormal. If you hae not had a period since September 29, and are having breast tenderness, I would suggest taking a pregnancy test just to make sure that you are not pregnant. If you are not pregnant, you should start birth control pills.
