QuestionDr. Rapport,
I am 36, have had two miscarriages and have seen a specialist who can't find anything wrong to indicate why I have had two miscarriages. I have been trying since January to get pregnant, with no success. My periods are very regular.
Without having direct contact with me, what are my chances of getting pregnant and carrying a baby full term.
Other than having hypothyrodism, which I take synthroid for, I am otherwise healthy.
Thank you!
AnswerI see no reason why you should not become pregnant. Miscarriages occur in 15-20% of every pregnancy. There is nothing you can do to cause a miscarriage, and there is nothing you can do to prevent a miscarriage. There is nothing wrong with you even if you have many miscarriages. I have had patients who have had 3 miscarriages in a row and then went on to have 4 normal pregnancies and deliveries. I have patients who had two normal pregnancies and then had 2 miscarriages in a row. Anything is possible and your thyroid problem should have no effect, as long as you continue to take your Synthroid every day. Don't worry. Good Luck.
