Answer
When you have intercouse, the sperm travels into the vagina and though the cervix and into the uterus. They then travel up the fallopian tube where they can fertilize the waiting egg (ovum). Once fertilization takes place, the now fertilized egg travels back through the tube to implant into the uterine lining. This trip usually takes 8 days from the day of conception (sex). Implantation is often (but now always) accompanied by some spotting. It is usually lighter than a period and occur 8-10 days after ovulation. A period is heavier and usually occurs 14 days after ovulation. If you have any doubts, take a pregnancy test and you will know for sure.
