Implantation Spotting vs. Period: What to Expect After Starting Birth Control
QuestionI have been on the pill for about a year and a half now and just recently started having sex this month. I had sex without a condom but have not missed a day on the pill in about 2 or 3 months. The day I was supposed to take my last pill just before i switched to the pills that I take during my week off i started light spotting. I normally don't actually start my regular flow until 2-4 days after I start taking my colored pills, however, I was reading on implantation spotting and I got worried that it could be that instead of a slightly early period. Do you think that it could be implantation spotting? If so, would I have a normal period afterwards or will it just stop? Should I be worried?
AnswerDear Jessica
No. I do not think you should worry about it. The continuous intake of the pill changes the histological characteristics of the endometrium making it unsuitable for implantation and prevents ovulation. The bleeding you noticed is probably a chance occurence and is not an implantation bleeding. Implantation bleeding, when it occurs, dose so 6-12 days after ovulation.
Best of luck
