Spotting After Intercourse: Understanding Implantation Bleeding & TTC

Question
Hi , I have a question and I have asked several people whom i know and they werent able to answer it . My Hubby and I are TTC , and this month we happened to have sex on my most fertile days ( 8,9 ,10 ) ...Well about 4 days ago i began spotting , its very minimal , not really even requiring a panty liner , usually just after i use the potty . I am supposed to get my period on the 27th and I should have being having my PMS symptoms by now , and there is NOTHING ...I was wanting to know if you think this could be implantation bleeding , or im just spotting ??? I read on Web MD that its normal for women who have had prior pregnancys to spot in the first month or so ...would that be a possibility ...I plan  on testing on the 27th if i dont get my period . I would just go to the doc , but our insurance doesnt start up until the 1st of january . Thank you so very much for you help .

Answer
Dear Juli,

Sorry about the delay in answering - I am actually supposed to be on vacation, but the system apparently did not set correctly. I happened to check in to make sure and saw there were three days worth of questions, so I will attempt some short answers while I have a house full of company going in thirty different directions around me! :-)

In short - it could be either. I know that isn't as definitive an answer as you wanted - but it really could be either some benign spotting, some spotting related to early pregnancy, or actual implantation bleeding. There is just no way to know absolutely - especially from this forum.

You must have fairly short cycles if your fertile days are CDs 8,9,10. Although some tests claim accuracy on the first day of a missed period, I usually suggest that women wait until the week after a missed or spotty period before testing for pregnancy, which typically equates to about three weeks after a potential conception date. This tends to minimize the incidence of false negative results and also avoids wasting money on a test for a simple delay of a period by a few days. When/if you test make sure to use 1st morning urine to get a concentrated sample for the most accurate results.

For now, try to relax and enjoy your holiday! There's no use tying yourself up in knots trying to figure out what the source of the spotting is at this point, when there just is no way to know for sure.

I hope this has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well and a Merry Christmas.
