Understanding Implantation Bleeding After Coming Off Birth Control
QuestionQUESTION: I went off birth control in the beginning of January because my husband and I wanted to start trying to conceive...my husband by the way has medical issues which has caused him to have a very low sperm count (last test showed and estimated 50,000). He currently is on FSH and HSG shots. My first cycle off the pill was 42 days, and my last 2 were 30. I know they say it can take up to 3 months after stopping the pill for your body to go back to normal. Prior to the pill I didn't pay much attention to my cycles but Im pretty sure I wasn't very regular. Today is cycle day 24 for me and I have started having light bleeding (little bit of spotting last night). I didnt really have much pms but yesterday and today I feel bloated. Is this my period or implantation bleeding? I do chart my tempature and according to my chart I only ovulated on day 17 and today my temperture rose after being down for a few days (but that also could be because I was tossing and turning all night wondering if I was having implantation bleeding). Im guessing its also too early to take a home pregnancy test?
ANSWER: Hi Jennifer,
What is the "implantation" that you are referring to?

QUESTION: Implantation of the fertilized egg into the uterus.
AnswerHi Jennifer,
OK, thanks. I thought for a moment you had an implanted birthcontrol device such as a IUD.
I suppose it is possible and if so, that will usually go on to slough and not take as a pregnancy. If it has gotten that far a pregnancy test will be positive. You should really wait for 10 days after your scheduled period for a home test to be reliable.
