Cerclage Aftercare & Return to Work: What to Expect
QuestionI had twins at 25 weeks due to what the doctors believe was an incompetent cervix. For my next pregnancy, the doctor will perform a cerclage at 12-14 weeks. What should I expect after in terms of working? I'm a teacher and am just wondering if I'll be put on bed rest for the rest of the pregnancy after the cerclage.
AnswerFor a few days following the cerclage, we usually keep the patient on bedrest with the legs elevated. However, after a few days, you do not need to stay on bedrest and can work if you choose. You have to be aware of any contractions or leakage of fluid, and you should have serial sonograms to measure the cervical length and fetal assessment.
