Light Period & Cycle Changes: What Could It Mean?

Question
I am 23 years old.  I have no children.  My last period was on November 28th. I am not on birth control. My period usually comes every 26 to 29 days (I keep count).  This month my period was due on Dec. 26 but arrived on the 24th.  This time my period was really different: it was browny/reddish in colour.  Also it was very light; so light that I only saw any blood when I wiped and there was only a small (quarter size) amount on on my pad (small mini-pad). I took a preg test on the 25th and then another one on the 28th (urine test) (at the doctors) and finally a third one on Jan 4th but the tests were all negative.  I am still seeing this weird period (it has been almost 11 days and still about quarter sized per day).  Three times I have seen some weird tissuey stuff when I go to the bathroom.  I don’t even think I can be pregnant b/c my bf and I have not actually had intercourse in a while. The last time we did anything he never went inside of me so I believe the chances are slim. (Our private parts may have touched but he did not ejaculate near me). This was on December the 19th or 20th (I am pretty sure). I went to my doctor and she just told me that this is regular but she was not very re-assuring. I am not overly stressed out nor have I had a large weight change so I don't know why I would have a weird period.  Three main questions: Can I be pregnant even with three negative tests and no other symptoms?  Is this really normal?  Do I need to worry about my weird period or is this some other medical problem? Thank you so much for your help.  Your advice to other people's questions has been the most reassuring.

Answer
If you have had three pregnancy tests (especially the last one) that have been negative, you are definitely not pregnant. The bleeding may be normal. If you bleed for longer than 14 days, call your doctor and you will be given Provera 10 mg twice a day for 5 days and, at first the bleeding will increase, and then it should stop within a few days. Don't worry. You probably have a small amount of hormonal imbalance this month.
