Pregnancy Possibility: Understanding Your Risk After Unprotected Sex

Question
had my period on the 13th of june and ended on 17th june, i just had unprotected sex on the 4th and 5th july, can i get pregnant

Answer
Dear Dee,

Anytime you have unprotected sex, you cannot dismiss the possibility of pregnancy. The odds increase when you have unprotected sex near your ovulation day. If you have regular 28 day cycles and your LMP was 6/13, your expected date of ovulation would be approximately 6/27. Therefore, the MOST fertile days of your cycle would be 4-5 days before and up to one day after ovulation. However, if your cycles are irregular - all bets are off (so to speak). There is often no way to predict when you will ovulate if your cycles are irregular.

You should be starting a period in the next week if you have regular periods. If you do not, you will need to test for pregnancy to know for sure. Although some tests claim accuracy on the first day of a missed period, I usually suggest that women wait until the week after a missed or spotty period before testing for pregnancy. This tends to minimize the incidence of false negative results and also avoids wasting money on a test for a simple delay of a period by a few days. When/if you test make sure to use 1st morning urine to get a concentrated sample for the most accurate results.

I hope this has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well.
