Question - DO You think follicle size of 12 mm on cd12 is a normal growth, and do you think they will be mature for an hcg trigger in 2 or 3 days?
I am not sure if taking 100 mg of clomid is a good idea because i am on 50 now and my cervical mucous is almost completely dry, although u/s showed lining was in good shape.
thanks

Hi Dr.

I am supposed to get an hcg shot either when folicles are mature or I get a +LH surge w/the ovulation kit. I am on clomid cd 3-7. I had an u/s on cd 12 I have 2 follicles I think he said that they are about 12mm. Do you think that follicles will be mature by cd 14 or 15? and does the hcg trigger cause the follicles to grow faster than they usually would before releasing an egg. I am supposed to have an iui after the hcg.

But if follies arent mature by Friday(cd15) I will not be able to have the iui, the office is closed on the weekend. I gusess my chances of conceiving this month are pretty low w/ only 2 follies. If I take 100 mg of clomid instead 50 would that increase follicles and their size?
Sorry this is so long.

Thank you in advance.
Jennifer
Answer -
Clomid acts on your hypothalamus to slow down the negative feedback mechanism in your pituitary to allow FSH to increase and it increases the probability of more follicles maturing and, thus, increases the probability of ovulation. I usually do not see any positive results until we use 100mg Clomid.  If you have taken clomid cycle day #3-7 and you see 2 follicles on cd12, I definitely would take the HCG this cycle. See what happens. Don't get frustrated even if you have to repeat this next cycle.

Answer
As I mentioned before, I have better success with 100mg Clomid than with 50mg Clomid. The follicles appear to be growing well and I would follow the instructions of your doctor and take the HCG  when scheduled. Don't worry if what your chances are of conceiving. Just follow the protocol. Don't worry about the effects of the Clomid.
