-----Question-----
my period. comes EVERY 21 days on the dot. I'm having unprotected sex. and my boyfriend pulls out. but anyways. the day my period was due. all i got was spotting. since the spotting 3 days went by. no period. i took a EPT test negative. I'm i pregnant?
-----Answer-----
Dear Amanda,
Well... obviously I can't tell you definitively whether you are pregnant or not. I will tell you - just for your own personal knowledge - that "pulling out" alone, as a method of birth control, is historically not effective. The pre-ejaculate (that little bit of semen that seeps out before actual ejaculation) does have a pretty high concentration of sperm cells contained within it. So the possibility of pregnancy is actually fairly high when the only precaution is "pulling out".
It is possible that the spotting you experienced was implantation bleeding. Implantation bleeding can occur 6-12 days after conception and often happens near the time a woman would expect her period, however it is shorter in duration and lighter in volume than a period. It can be red, pink, or brown in color.
A pregnancy test, especially if it was not done using concentrated 1st morning urine, may have been done too early to pick up the pregnancy hormone. hCG levels in early pregnancy are sometimes too low to read until at least a week after the missed period.
My suggestion is to wait another week and test for pregnancy again, making sure to use 1st morning urine for the most accurate results. If that test is negative again, then go ahead and wait for your next cycle to see what occurs. It may have been a fluke month due to a hormonal imbalance, stress, a change in diet, etc,...
I hope this information has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well.

AnswerDear Amanda,
Different sources say different things about this issue. However, there are some who speculate that menstrual cycle irregularities can result from sexual activity - especially if it is a new occurrence.
It may be related to the hormones which are released during sex. It may also be due to underlying factors - unconscious or conscious anxiety about pregnancy, change in status, trust issues, and the impact of sex and the changes it causes in our intimate relationships.
I hope this answers your question. I'm glad your anxiety has been relieved and hope my information has helped you.
