QuestionThank you very much for the quick reponse. I have avr. 28 day cycle (sometime up to 31), last cycle stared on 11/14.
I just wanted to clarify the definition of "surge". this digital monitor is supposed to show "high" surge and "peak" surge. Are you saying that the ovulation "high" surge starts around day #13? Or "peak" does? The guide said to try every other day from high surge... Would you tell me how long this "peak" surge last? Should we try everyday during that period?
Thank you again!

Hello. We have been TTC for 11months now. (i'm 31 and dh 34) I didn't not chart BBT until 4 months ago and noticed that I have shorter high temp duration(avr. 9-12days) Overall, BBT shifted from low to high in nice curve for the past 4 months. I started using Ovulex this cycle and also started using digital fertility monitor. I'm on cycle 12 and still no sign of ovulation. Is it possible that it was this caused by Ovulex ? Seeing shorter high temp duration, I am little concerned that I have hormonal inbalance of some sort. My OB appointment isn't scheduled until 3 weeks from now. It could be just my mind worked up with this, but would you please help?
Thank you as always...
PS. we have already done FSH, LH and SA done, all came back normal, though Dr. said that LH was mediocre.

When was the first day of your last period and how long is your cycle, usually (from the first day of your period until the first day of your next period)? If you have a normal 28 day cycle, ovulation usually occurs no earlier than cycle day #14. If you have a "short luteal phase" (from ovulation until the start of your next period) it could be a sign of low progesterone. A short luteal phase is the time of high temperature duration. It is considered normal if it is longer than 7 days. If your luteal phase was 9-12 days, then you have a normal luteal phase and have a 23-26 day cycle. The digital ovulation indicator should show an LH surge around cycle day #13. I would suggest that you be patient and continue to check for ovulation. Your cycle appears to be adequate. Good Luck.
AnswerIf you have a normal 28 day cycle, then ovulation occurs on cycle day #14. The first half of the cycle is controlled by estrogen. Estrogen causes maturation of the graafian follicles in the ovary (forming an ovum) and estrogen prepares the uterus for implantation by thickening the endometrium (wall of the uterus). Estrogen starts to rise at the beginning of your period and starts to decline at around cycle day #13, when progesterone starts to rise. Progesterone causes coiled arteries in the endometrium and, if a sperm fertilizes an egg, will maintain the pregnancy until the placenta takes over. Ovulation occurs from the action of a third hormone, Luteinizing hormone (LH)which actually causes the expulsion of the egg from the ovary. Once the egg is ovulated, it travels to the end of the tube and awaits the sperm. The LH surge is the only way we can tell if you have ovulated. The digital monitor (as well as any ovulation predictor kit) measures the LH surge, or the sudden rise in LH. The high surge is the initial surge and ovulation usually takes place 12-24 hours from this surge. YOu should start having intercourse every othe day from the first time you detect ANY LH surge. In that way, you can "bracket" the time of ovulation and increase your chances of having sperm in the area when the egg is there. It appears that you are doing everyting correctly. Just keep on trying. Good Luck.
