QuestionI was diagnosed with strep throat today and am 17 weeks pregnant. Can this hurt my baby? I was started on Amoxicillin...
AnswerHi Lori :)
No, your baby will be just fine, so no worries. The Group B strep, which you will be tested later in pregnancy, is the one that is of concern. This can cause alot of issues with a baby come delivery time. You will be swabbed, and if tested positive, you will be given antibiotics as you labour, to prevent the baby coming in contact with the strep as he/she makes their way down the birthcanal.
Regardless, you will be just fine, and so will your baby :) Hope you get over that Strep throat soon! Ouch!
All the best to you :)
