Hi, I am 8 weeks pregnant and just had my first vaginal sonogram at the doctor. they said the baby has developed to 8 weeks in 5mm but has no heart beat. Is there any chance my baby is still alive and what should i do?

At eight weeks the heart beat of the baby should be seen in an antenatal ultrasound scan. Since it is not seen in your case, I can be reasonably sure that this pregnancy is not viable anymore. You will have to get a suction evacuation done to remove the products of conception as they are not viable. I am extremely sorry for you, but around 15% of pregnancies do end up in an abortion. This is mainly do to severe genetic defects and this is nature's way to ensure that the best survive into this world.
