Terbutaline Discontinuation & Labor Progress at 37 Weeks: What to Expect

Question
I am 37 weeks pregnant and was taking terbutaline since 31 weeks.  I stopped taking the medication 4 days ago.  I am 3 cm dialated, 30% effaced, and at +3 station.  I have had no changes since coming off the medication and am wondering how much longer I can expect until I go into active labor. ( I have very infrequent contractions)

Answer
Hi Erica :)

Congradulations of making it full term!

At 37 weeks, you could go into active labour at any given time. You could go tomorrow, or you could go a week from now. There is absolutely no way to determine when you will start active labour.

You mentioned that you are experienceing sparadic contractions, so it sounds like your body is slowly getting ready and trying to get into active labour. But when this happens, is anyones guess.

Keep in mind, that its not uncommon, for first time mothers to go a week overdue. Even though the terbutaline, prevented you from having preterm labour, you still could wait atleast another 3 weeks, unless you are induced.

I am sorry for not having a cut and dry answer for you. But every women's body is different, and their is absolutely no way in determining exactly when she is going to labour, and deliver.

I am sure by now you want this all to be over and done with :) So I will keep my fingers crossed, that your active labour kicks in soon :)

All the Best to you :)
