Depo Shot & Period Irregularities: What to Expect
QuestionWell here is my situation: I got on the depo shot 3 weeks ago, on July, 25th. This was my first time getting on the shot after 4 years (I haven't been on any other type of birth control during this period). I had sexual intercourse with my parter exactly 4 days before I got on the shot. They also gave me an emergency contraceptive pill, which I took that same day. I had no side effects up until about a week ago. I was suppose to get my period on the 8th of this month. I am now 7 days late. Also I started cramping about 1 or 2 days before that (this is the weird part). I have been getting mild cramps every single day since then, I get them throughout the day. Also, a few days before that my nipples felt sore. I didn't think too much of it because they had told me that the shot causes pregnancy like symptoms. I know your period can also be thrown off track and after a while of being on it your period can just go away. But I'm not sure if it is suppose to happen so soon after getting on the shot. So my question to you is, is all this being caused by the shot, or is there a possibility I might be pregnant? I really appreciate your time and hope you find the time to answer my question soon because I am just really confused right now.
Thank you very much, Natalie.
AnswerHi Natalie,
Did you find out what your situation is? Are you pregnant or was it a symptom of the depo? I hope you will email me at CHERYL51@aol.com
I would suggest that if you haven't had a confirmed pregnancy test, that you would go to a pregnancy resource center and have a FREE test done there. Go to http://www.optionline.org or http://www.heartbeatservices.org and click on the worldwide directory. Find a nearby pregnancy resource center and contact them. Let me know what happens. I can say that you are correct about the hormones causing pregnancy like symptoms. Hope to hear from you soon by email CHERYL51@aol.com
