PCOS & Early Ovulation: Understanding Symptoms & Fertility

Question
Ive recently been diagnosed with PCOS. I have very irregular menstrual cycles. Prior to this last period my lmp was 11/22/07. Two wks ago I was put on Provera to induce a period. Last wk I started having sore breasts and even though I had a period this week (which was light for not having one for 2 months)they continue to be sore. My husband and I are trying to get pregnant and seeing an RE (he has a very low sperm count). I had cycle day 2 blood work drawn yest which according to the nurse showed Im probably getting ready to ovulate already even though Im just finishing my period (estrogen was 230). Could the very early ovulation be the result of the Provera or does it have something to do with PCOS?

Answer
Dear Jennifer,

Typically the Provera will trick the body into thinking it is ending a cycle and stimulate a period. The estrogen level indicating the very early ovulation may mean that your hormone levels are just not balanced appropriately - thus your irregular cycles - potentially affected by or related to ovarian function (PCOD).

Regardless, take the advice of the RE as to when to attempt conception. They will have your hormone levels, combined with you and your husband's medical data, to best determine when conception chances are increased - even if that goes against all normal reason, such as a CD2 ovulation date! Stranger things have happened!  :-)

I hope this has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well.
