QuestionI am a 29 year old group exercise instructor which I do for a living. I teach between 18-20 classes per week, with about 13 of them being classes that I have to particpate in, weights, step, kickboxing, and low impact cardio. Some of these classes I get lax in and instruct instead of join in with all the exercises. Most of these would qualify as moderate intensity. I teach these classes over a 5 day period and I do not teach or exercise at all Saturday or Sunday.
I have been trying to conceive the last cycle and am going to continue to try this cycle. I have a regular menstrual cycle every month and have always. It only lasts app. 2 days and very light. Most of the time I only have menstrual symptoms the first day of my period. I have no evidence to proove that I ovulate every month but do have symptoms of ovulation. I rarely get symptoms of ovetraining. I eat enough calories to support my habits and I am deemed to be in excellent health but worry that maybe I workout too much to be able to conceive. Could you give me some advice?
Thank you in advance for your response.
Mandy
AnswerYou're super fit!!! Congratulations, when you do become pregnant, you'll be able to maintain your high fitness/health level and your baby will be super fit and healthy too.
It's normal for very fit women to have light periods, so no worries there. And you've only been trying to conceive for one cycle, so you have nothing to worry about there either. Most OBGYN's suggest that women of your age go through 6 months or more of unprotected intercourse before looking at the possibility of fertility problems.
Since you eat healthily, menstruate regularly, and are not significantly underweight, the amount of exercise that you get will not negatively impact your fertility.
