QuestionThank-you for your reply. I tend to have quite a bit of pain during ovulation that will often last up to 3 days. My question to you is when I feel the pain have I ovulated or am I about to. I also noticed some pink tinge to my mucus last night-is that unusual. Lastly if we have intercourse every day are we lessening our chances of conceiving? (FYI I have conceived on the first attempt for each child) Thanks again

Hello I am 31 with 2 boys, both c-sections. My last period was July 9th.(that was a 33 day cycle) The month before was a 35 day cycle. The month before that I am sure I had an early miscarriage because of some clear symptoms and a late and very very heavy and painful period. I am trying to get pregnant now but am unsure of when will be my most fertile. (Until 3 months agao I was always regular-28 days) When I ovulate I feel moderate pain with much mucus. I am wondering if when the pain is felt I have or am about to ovulate. Do we have intercourse every day or every second day? Thank-you

If you have a 33-35 day cycle, you probably ovulate on between cycle day #19-21. However, if you have a 28 day cycle (from the first day of your period until the first day of your next period) ovulation occurs on cycle day #14. I would suggest that you start having unprotected sex on cycle day #13 and continue every other day until cycle day #21. That way you can "bracket" the day of ovulation and increase your chances of conceiving.
AnswerAlthough a sharp pain on one side of the abdomen or the other often signifies ovulation, you can also have pain that is unrelated to ovulation. Usually, at the precise moment of expulsion of the ovum from the ovary (due to an LH surge), you will get a sharp pain in the area of that ovary. At that time, the cervical mucus starts to stretch ("spinnbarkeit") and develops the "egg-white" character. Sometimes, you can also have some blood tinged mucus around the time of ovulation. I would still recommend having intercourse every other day rather than every day to prevent depletion of sperm. Since sperm can remain viable for one to two days, you do not have to have intercourse every day.
