Subchorionic Hematoma & Exercise: Recovery and Activity Guidelines

Question
i have been diagnose with subchrionic hematoma at about 12 weeks with just one bleeding episode at 10 weeks.  hematoma was about 13 cm end of August.  I was put on restricted activity for three weeks, and hematoma shrunk to 6 cm.  i was put on limited activity for another 3 weeks, but ultrasound last Tuesday showed that the hematoma has not shrunked or gotten bigger during those weeks.  my doctor put me on another 3 weeks of limited activity.  he told me i can walk and swim, but told me i cannot practice of perfom my basketball juggling act.  i dribble, juggle and spin 3-6 basketballs for living, so it has put an emotional and financial strain on our family with me not being able to perform.  my question is, how come i am allowed to walk but not juggle or dribble basketballs?  i am really not sure that juggling is much more strenous that walking.  and if me not juggling for three weekd did not make any change, then is the a reason to believe that juggling would make hematoma larger?  you can see of more what i do at www.basketballfamily.com.  any suggestion would be very encouraging.

Answer
While no one can say with complete certainty that your juggling act is dangerous or safe, in cases like yours it is always better to err on the side of caution. Follow your Dr's advise.
Both walking and swimming are non-impact exercise, and therefore safest. Your Dr is probably worried that your routine is too physical for your condition. If this presents a deep hardship for your family, show your Dr a tape of your act so he/she can get a clearer picture of how much impact/physical stress is involved.
