Postpartum Vaginal Tightness & Discharge: Causes, Recovery & When to See a Doctor

Question
I delivered my baby 4 months ago - it was a normal delivery
with no tears. 6 weeks post delivery I was diagnosed with
Bacterial infections three times in a row. I have now been
cleared of it all. Yet, there is tightness of the vagina /
labia. And I have noticed a lot of discharge the past
couple of days. Is it normal? Or should I go see a
different doctor? How long does the tightness / soreness
last?

Answer
Congratulations on the birth of your baby. If the mucus has a foul odor or is an odd color, you need to call you doctor back. I don't really know what to say as far as the "tightening". Your body is different after you have a baby. Even though you didn't require stitches, it doesn't mean you didn't have some abrasions. The baby stretched out your vaginal wall and it takes many months for you muscle tone to heal. A lot of times you are never going to be or feel the same down there again. Hope this helps.
