THANKS
Answer I can not believe a nurse told you no. That is not so. Let me explain....
You have to understand ovulation to really understand the answer to this.
A woman really is only fertile 24 hours each month. To know when you are fertile you have to know cycles.
A cycle is from one period to the next starting from the first day of your period.
If the number you get from the first day of one period to the first day of the next is 28 then you have a 28 day cycle.
To know the most likely time you are fertile you split that number in half. So on a 28 day cycle you are fertile around day 14. Notice I say around. You should assume you are fertile from day 12 to about day 16 since you may not drop your egg right on time. Exspecially if you are not regularly on your periods.
If the egg is not fertilized with sperm it is released, that is what you know as your period.
The reason you may still be fertile on your period is several.
One. You may have not have ridden yourself of the egg yet. Two. You may drop another out of cycle.
Three. Sperm can live inside up to one week after intercourse!
I know this is all confusing but trust me, anytime you have intercourse you risk pregnacy. The risk is lower on your period, but NOT gone.
Good luck to you.
