QuestionMy 3 year old grandson's white cell count is 27. What is the normal and what is high. The DR thinks he is having an infection somewhere. If a person is anemic do they have a high white cell count. At what level do DR's investigate further for leukemia and anemia?
AnswerThe WBC can go up for a lot of reasons, infection is only one. And yes, it can go up with stress, blood cancers, etc. Normal is typically 4000-10000 0r 12000 depending on which lab you use. If someone looks for leukeniaio, they would want to see the blood counts above 20,000.
Hope this helps....
