Low White Blood Cell Count in Mothers: Causes, Symptoms & What to Do
Question My mother has many medical conditons, including hypothyriodism, recent TIA, mild heart attack about 7 years ago. High blood pressure, severe arthritis in her knees. She recovered well from the TIA, but then developed new symptoms which until 6 mos. later they are starting to get somewhere. She has been very very weak. Only able to get around with a cane, and not for very long. She is exhausted all the time. The first thing they found was her thyroid medicine had stopped working. So , it was so far off the charts she would have died then if they didn't catch it. She is 69 yrs old. They switched it to the natural thyroid brand Armour. It came back to normal in a month. It had no effect on her conditions. Her nerves in her legs are inflammed, but the doctor found that not to be the cause. He is sending her to a blood specialist in a week due to her low white blood cell count. I am a pharmacy tech and I cannot find alot on low white counts. Any information would be greatly be appreciated. She lives 200 miles away and I can't be with her now due to my job. If I need to be though , I could get there. I just don't know the possibilites of her condition. Thanking you in advance for any help or advice or where I might be able to find out more info.

Answerdear renee:
a low white blood cell count can be due to many conditions, i.e. medications, a big spleen, problems with the bone marrow, deficiency in certain vitamins. i am sure the blood specialist will work it out but you'll have to have the patience to let him/her do his/her work.
