QuestionDear Dr. I have a question , my son has had chronic sinusitis for at least the last 9 months. In June someone at the ent office ordered a sinus ct scan, which showed severe sinustis. My question is this, the ent left the ct scan in his car for two months and did not have results forwarded to the pediatrition. By the time I could get an appt. with this ent, he said the results were not relevant anymore. However my son continues to have sinusitis and is now on a 14 day course of Vantin. the ent said if ymptoms were to persist he would need another image. Recently, I attempted to obtain the complete medical charts from the ent office and they would not even let me view them. I made three requests in writing, and finally, when I mentioned that they were in violation of the PA code 49 they let me have them after making me come back the next day. These records are painfully obviously "doctered" which I believe is why they would not let me have them all along. they needed that last 24 hours to change them. Is it usual theat medical records be out of chronological order, as well as contain statements attributed to me that I never said, as well as be so misdated that the entries make no sense to anyone who knows the true chronological order of events? There is no record of anyone having ordered either ct scan my son had. There is no record of these ct scans being read with me. I'd tried for weeks after the ct scan to make an appt. i tried for weeks after the ct scan to speak with the ent about the ct scan , and the nurses never knew what was going on, there was nothing in his chart when I would call regarding a ct scan. As you might tell this has caused much frustration on my part. Could you tell me if a sinus ct scan is still relevant after having been kept in the ents car for 2 months? We are going to see a spec. tommorow, and I have the ct scan in hand, would like to know if it is still relevant, and were the problems I encountered just sloppy record keeping or worse? I also would like you feedback on if this was at all ethical to order a ct and never to do anything with it? Thanks, Kim

Could you tell me if a sinus ct scan is still relevant after having been kept in the ents car for 2 months? Yes, it would be relevant forever unless there was a successful course of treatment.
would like to know if it is still relevant, and were the problems I encountered just sloppy record keeping or worse? They could be much worse so you could and should report to the state medical board and the fraud unit of your insurance company.
I also would like you feedback on if this was at all ethical to order a ct and never to do anything with it?
It is not necessarily unethical but is definitely not the standard of care and should be reported as noted above. They both will investigate.
