Understanding Your Bone Scan: What to Expect & Claustrophobia

Question
I am scheduled to have a bone scan on 9/7/06. The script reads "triple phase bone scan LE's views B/l knee." My question is I am extremly claustrophobic. Does the camera need to pass over my head for LE's scan. Thanks very much, Pat

Answer
Pat,

DEXA studies are usually performed on an "open" machine... a table with an arm that swings over you (not like a CT or MRI)... the LE probably refers to Lower Extremity ... hip, leg, etc. and B/I Knee.. probably means bi-lateral knees.  The arm is small and should not be an issue with claustrophobics.
