Understanding Sinus Pain: Causes, Symptoms & Relief
QuestionHi
For the past two weeks I have had sinus pain on the left side inculding behind the eye. I don't have any congestion or mucus. My nose is normal. The pain is like a throbbing and it goes down into the top part of my jaw and it feels like I have a few toothaches. I have also been experiencing occasional slight ear pain and sometimes the ear feels like it has liquid inside(or cold air) but nothing comes out ont he Q-tip. I also seem to suffer with broken blood vessels in the left eye on a regular basis. I have been taking DayQuil and NyQuil sinus and got relief from the pain but that relief seems to require more pills than just two for the day. I took two an hour and half ago and I still have the pain. I have not had a cold in almost three years and my only illnesses are scoliosis, allergies and asthma (when I run only). I am a 43 yr old female and healthy. Do you have any ideas what could be the cause.
AnswerThis easily could be a chronic sinus infection/sinus block. Sometimes people with have cysts in their sinus' that block it....
One way is to get a cat scan of sinus' to check....
a less radioactive way would be to try AFRIN NOSE SPRAY twice a day for a week. You don't want to use this stuff long term, but it is safe to use as above.
Sometimes I will prescribe antibiotics with or without steroids plus the afrin.
Good luck with this.....
