Persistent Sinus Drainage After a Cold: Causes and What to Do

Question
Good Evening,
I have a question about sinus drainage. I am a 42 year old female, I have always had very mild sinus drainage. A few weeks ago, I was very sick with a cold and cough. When that illness passed, I have been left with this sinus drainage, it is thick and constant. When I cough it up, it is very thick and white. Alot of the time I have a chlorine like taste in my mouth when I cough. Is this anything familiar? I have never had this or heard of it. Anything you could tell me would be appreciated.
Thank you!
Susan

Answer
Hi susan,
Are you a smoker? Could be just the residual from the upper respiratory infection or allergy related. As for the chlorine taste, I'm not sure what to make of that unless your sense of smell has become so perverted by the illness that you "taste" chlorine---possibly even a fungal infection. I'm sorry to be so ambiguous. I think a visit to an allergist would be a good idea.
